The boat was build 1915 under the name Ibi IV at the shipyard of Svend Svendsen in Kastrup (Denmark) and was originally ordered by a Lawyer named N.N. At least one other person, N.N. a medical doctor from Copenhagen, is shown by old documents to be owner of Ibi IV. In summer 1956 the boat was sold from Denmark to Lübeck in Germany, Ibi IV was renamed to Polarstern based at the Segler-Verein Trave with the same (!) owner until spring 2003.
